Chesterfield County Sheriff Dennis Proffit to retire

Citizens, the current Sheriff of Chesterfield County, Virginia is retiring.  Sheriff Dennis Proffit has publicly announced his intentions to retire in early 2014.  Proffit has served this County for many years and I wish him well in his "retired" status.

But, lets look at the facts surrounding the Chesterfield county Sheriff's Office and the entrenched "good ole boy" mentality that some say permeates from its leadership.

Sheriff Proffit was handed the job by his predecessor, Sheriff Williams, who also retired and did not complete his elected term.........I find it strange, the last two Sheriffs in Chesterfield have chosen not to complete their elected terms and "hand" the job over to a friend.  Citizens, I see a pattern here and it is for good reason.

In the history of the United States there has been only one President to resign and not complete his elected term of office.  With that being said, there has been 13 Vice Presidents that went on to become President. Only four doing so by direct election, the other 9 were by Presidential death and the resignation of Richard M. Nixon. The last Vice President to be elected President was in 1988 and prior to that we have to go back to the year 1836.

So I do find it odd......that the last two Sheriff's in Chesterfield County have not completed their elected terms of office and turned the job over to their chosen "VP" or Under sheriff. But, lets explore the reasoning behind this innocuous change of leadership.

First, it gives the "appointed" Sheriff an incumbents advantage in any future election.  On the surface this seems like a typical strategy to keep one political party in office.  Secondly, it is done as to not run afoul of Federal law, most notably the Hatch Act.
The way the Feds articulated it to me was simple. I will not bore the uninformed with the details and just give it layman's terms. The Under sheriff would have to resign from his position and seek the Sheriffs position in an open election.  But, by being appointed Sheriff by the "retiring" Sheriff all parties concerned do an "end run" and skirt the law.

What are the ramifications of this  change in leadership? First, it clearly sends a message to the citizens that the Chesterfield County Sheriff's Office has an entrenched philosophy of cronyism.  Secondly, it is a blatent perversion of the Democratic process. Thirdly, it out right stinks..........

I welcome a change of leadership at the Sheriff's Office. We can always use fresh ideas and eyes when it comes to any agency funded by taxpayer dollars. Especially in these times of declining revenues and rising costs.

If Mr. Lenoard wishes to become the next Sheriff, then do so in the proper manner.  Run in an open election, with other candidates who can debate and present to the citizens of Chesterfield their vision for the Sheriff's Office. Not by being "handed" the position from one of your buddies from the Police Department.

Consequently, I dare Sheriff Proffitt, no, I double dare Sheriff Proffitt to finish his elected term and not hand the job over to one of his cronies as Williams did to you.
We need normality and sanity in this change of leadership, not a perversion of the electoral process.

Another Veterans Day has come.......Citizens, remember our vets and their sacrifice to our Country. Since the early seventies we have had an all volunteer force.  These are the folks who put their lives on the line for us every day.

Without the service of these fine Citizens we would be helpless against our enemies.

CHESTERFIELD COUNTY VIRGINIA MEALS TAX FLOPS.........

The citizens of Chesterfield County, Virginia have spoken and rejected a "meals tax" measure that was on the ballot.  Citizens rejected the measure because times are tough.......expenses are up and raises are few.

With that being said, democracy has worked and our citizens turned back another tax.....especially one in uncertain times.  Wages have been stagnant, raises scarce and business closings and lay-offs plague the working men and women of Chesterfield, County Virginia.

I urge our county leaders to tighten their belts.  Force departments to look internally to save money and cut expenses.  Do more with less.......like the working men and women of this County must do.

The Chesterfield County Sheriff's Office is a prime example of waste.........They should be training people to work in the jail with the basic minimum standards required by the DCJS. Instead they spend a fortune in training that is not even relevant to jail operations.......wasting, thousands and thousands of tax payer dollars on unnecessary training. They waste money on needless equipment as well............

Two teachers lose their lives in one week.

Recently, two teachers were killed in one week.  They were both killed by students and this reinforces my opinion that schools can be dangerous.  Since the events of last December at Sandy Hook, there has been a debate concerning the arming of school employees.

There are those who are adamantly against the notion, claiming guns in schools would not be a good idea.  They argue that more carnage would result and therefore we should keep schools "gun-free" zones.

Citizens, I take the stand that we have a God given right to defend ourselves, no matter where we are. At work, in public and at our homes we have a right to arm up and defend our life.  I dismiss the notion that this job is better suited for the police. By the time they arrive, its usually to late.

Consequently, we need armed employees in our schools. They will be safer and the NRA is spot on when it comes to this issue.

Why any new gun control legislation failed...................

Citizens, new gun control legislation failed.........because the only viable option that would have prevented the tragedy at Sandy Hook was not on the table.........

The NRA was blunt, and also correct........Armed guards in our schools was the best option.

Instead, liberals sought to exploit the tragedy to advance their anti-gun agenda.

The system worked and anti-gun legislation died out.......It's creators even acknowledged they didn't have a chance.............

Ammo Manufacturers Producing '24 Hours a Day' to Match Demand

Representatives from Hornady, Remington and Black Hills ammunition are stating that they are producing ammunition at unprecedented rates.  There has been a "run" on ammunition at dealers across the country. Since the tragedy of Sandy Hook, ammunition, High capacity magazines and "black" rifles and parts have been in high demand.

Many dealers in ammo are out of stock, and stating month's long backlogs. Components, such as bullets, cases, primers and powder are also scarce.

This is troubling, but it is also good to know that companies that produce ammo are stepping up to the plate and are running at wide-open capacity. Hornady states that many employees are working over time to keep up with current market demands.

Say Goodbye to the Assault Weapons Ban

It appears that another Assault weapon ban is not in the works...........Citizens, you can thank the National Rifle Association and the hard work they do.........

With that being said........I encourage the citizens of this great nation to support and join the National Rifle Association......The protection of our Second Amendment rights are the cornerstone of the NRA.........
